My names Alfonso Chavez and I go by “Fonz520.” I’m a Tucson native and local graphic design, painting, and Performing artist. At a young age, I recognized that I had a hyper creative mind that kept me busy with drawing and later on poetry/rap as well as other outlets. Throughout my high school years I practiced my craft as an emcee and got very involved with the local HipHop scene. For years I’ve been a part of local rap battles, performances, collaborations, attended/organized numerous shows, and even developed lesson plans on the Hip Hop culture as part of a prevention program for at risk youth. As a community organizer, I’ve used these teachings as a tool for mobilizing, educating and empowering community for years and have seen the impact it’s made on others just as it has on me. I know that Hip Hop has the power to save and benefit the lives of millions, as it already has and hope to be part of the driving force that creatively creates space for many who are considered disadvantaged and/or may not see themselves in the common narrative/pop culture lifestyle, and for folks of all and every background.
